F A Q
How do I get started?
The first step is to choose a counselor best suited for your present needs. If you need help choosing, call (314) 720-2710 ext. 1 or email info@killeencounseling.com and one of our counselors will call you within 24 hours with a recommendation. You may also consult our staffpage for helpful bios and contact information for each of our counselors. Call or email the counselor of your choice. They will call or email you back to answer any questions and set up an appointment time.
Do you take insurance?
We are not able to take insurance due to low reimbursement rates and high administrative costs. However, we can provide our clients with diagnostic receipts which they submit for reimbursement for an out of network provider. Your reimbursement rate will vary depending on your policy. In addition, we accept HSA credit cards. We will make every effort to work with you to stay within your financial means.
What will the first session be like?
It is a time to be heard and understood, to collaborate on goals and plans for achieving them. You may ask any questions and expect to be set at ease. Most feel a sense of relief after the first session, knowing they are not alone and have renewed hope. Reaching out for help is often the hardest step, but most clients report that they feel relieved and hopeful after their first session.
How long does counseling take?
The length of counseling depends in part on the client’s goals and obstacles to growth. The first three sessions are a time to assess strengths and challenges and to consider a framework for the work together, including how long it may take. Eight sessions is usually a time to reassess progress and goals. Just as problems take significant time to develop, change often takes time and effort. However, we consider it important to collaborate with clients in planning the work.
